Spondylolisthesis Treatment OptionsLaser Spine Surgery for Spinal Stenosis

Spondylolisthesis is commonly seen in people with back pain. It is a medical term that describes one vertebrae slipping forward on another.

There are five common types of Spondylolisthesis – dysplastic, isthmic, degenerative, traumatic and pathologic - with degenerative being the most common.

A sixth type, Iatrogenic Spondylolisthesis,  has also been described. This type of Spondylolisthesis occurs after spinal surgery such as a laminectomy.

Treatment of Spondylolisthesis is often determined by how far forward the slippage of one vertebrae is upon the adjacent vertebrae AND if that slip is overly mobile and unstable. This can be determined with routine spine x-rays.

UNSTABLE Spondylolisthesis Treatment Options

For UNSTABLE Spondylolisthesis, i.e., Spondylolisthesis that DOES move excessively upon bending forward at the waste or with lying down, spinal fusion to stabilize the excessive motion is considered the treatment of choice by many spinal surgeons.

However, there are other treatment options including Dynamic Stabilization that do not require a spinal fusion.

At Celling Treatment Centers, we are experienced in all methods of spinal surgery including minimally invasive Dynamic Stabilization and minimally invasive spine fusion for UNSTABLE Spondylolisthesis.

STABLE Spondylolisthesis Treatment Options

For STABLE Spondylolisthesis, i.e., for Spondylolisthesis that DOES NOT move excessively upon bending forward at the waste or with lying down, spinal fusion or dynamic stabilization is not the universal treatment of choice by spinal surgeons.

At Celling Treatment Centers, we do NOT recommend spinal fusion or dynamic stabilization as the first line treatment for stable Spondylolisthesis.

The treatment of stable Spondylolisthesis depends on the source of pain. At Celling Treatment Centers, we will facilitate a comprehensive diagnostic work-up to determine where exactly the pain is coming from and then tailor a treatment plan to address all the sources of pain in a single out-patient, minimally invasive procedure.

This may include decompression of spinal stenosis that results from Spondylolisthesis, a foraminotomy for any pinched nerve, laser neurotomy for facet pain, disc decompression for spinal disc pain and/or stem cell therapy to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Celling Treatment Centers specializes in ALL methods of minimally invasive spine surgery and regenerative medicine and customizes all treatment plans to meet the individual needs of each patient.
