Complex Spine Program For Failed Back Surgery Treatment and Chronic Back Pain Relief

Foraminotomy for back pain reliefComplex disorders of the spine are challenging for the patient and the surgeon. Critical decision-making and experience are required to determine a reasonable strategy and potential corrective procedures such as foraminoplasty.

Many spinal problems are so unique that large patient outcome studies simply are not possible. This is when the experience of your spinal surgeon is of utmost importance.

Failed Back Surgery Syndrome

Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) has many causes. Some causes, like arachnoiditis, cannot be helped by any surgical method. However, many patients who have intractable back and leg pain after conventional surgery can be helped by minimally invasive surgical procedures including foraminoplasty.

Realistic expectations are paramount in treating patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome. The goal is a significant reduction in pain.  Most patients will not be pain free but receive a significant reduction in pain resulting in an improvement in the quality of their life.

Our approach includes a comprehensive diagnostic work up to determine the exact source of the pain. Then, a treatment plan can be determined to help relieve pain.

Failed LASER Spine Surgery

Laser spine failures often present unique challenges to the spine surgeon. More serious failures are due to discitis, bone necrosis, epidural abscess, psoas abscess, spinal fluid leak or nerve injury.

However, the majority of these failures are simply due to a failure to adequately identify and treat ALL the primary generator(s) of pain. Frequently, additional sources of pain can be identified during a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and addressed with a procedure such as foraminotomy or other minimally invasive methods.

One of the more challenging findings seen in patients who have undergone laser spine surgery is chronic pain resulting from a complete removal of the facet joint (facetectomy). Once symptomatic, these patents will not likely improve without further surgery.

CELLING TREATMENT CENTERS can customize a treatment plan to meet the unique needs of these patients. Our laser spine procedures can also treat back pain, neck pain, spinal stenosis, sciatica as well as Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.

Dynamic StabilizationDynamic Stabilization

Dynamic Stabilization, also known as Motion Stabilization, provides structural support across painful levels of the spine while decreasing the risk of degeneration at the levels above and below the stabilization that typically occurs with a fusion.

Dynamic stabilization procedures can be performed through less-invasive methods designed to prevent the detachment of muscles from the spine that result in pain and permanent atrophy and weakness of spine postural muscles.

Mini-Fusion

Despite the trend away from spinal fusions, there are still some clear indications for a fusion - instability, deformity, failed back surgery, facetectomy, tumor and trauma to name a few.

For those who require a fusion procedure it is important to know that there are many techniques available.

Mini-fusions are designed to minimize damage to the overlying muscles which could otherwise result in chronic pain. They are completed using less invasive techniques than conventional fusions offering patients the best opportunity for stability and functional restoration.
