Osteoarthritis Treatment

Stem Cell Treatment for Osteoarthritis and other Painful Joint Conditions

Introduction

Osteoarthritis is a painful degenerative disorder of the joints.  It develops gradually, often starting with pain in a single joint.

The primary symptoms of pain and swelling are the results of thinning of the amount or cartilage present on the end of the bones in the joint. This cartilage damage results in pain as the banes rub together.

There is no cure for osteoarthritis, but medications, surgery and multidisciplinary management can provide relief from the symptoms.

Anti-inflammatories and analgesics have both proven effective in the management of osteoarthritis. However, they have not been show to slow the progression of osteoarthritis and many side effects have been reported.

Celling Treatment Center Procedure

Celling Treatment Centers' Osteoarthritis treatment differs from conventional medical treatment because it is a drug-free alternative treatment focused on treating the physical effects of the disease in order to improve patient quality of life.

The treatment focuses on reducing the symptoms and chronic effects of osteoarthritis. The mechanism of action for stem cell therapy is believed to be due to stem cells' ability to down-regulate inflammation and promote tissue healing through regeneration.

Patients are treated by directly injecting concentrated stem cells into the joint with the degenerative arthritis. The stem cells then migrate throughout the joint providing arthritis pain relief.

This outpatient procedure requires patients to stay in Austin, Texas for 2 or 3 nights.

Treatment process: bone marrow harvesting, stem cell processing and stem cell implantation:

Bone Marrow HarvestingBone marrow harvesting of stem cells

For patient comfort, bone marrow harvesting is performed under light sedation and local anesthesia. There is a mild amount of local discomfort after the procedure that will resolve naturally.

Harvesting of the bone marrow takes approximately 20 minutes.

Stem Cell ProcessingBone marrow processing of stem cells

After the bone marrow is collected, the stem cell processing begins in the operating room using advanced bone marrow processing technology.

Upon completion of the stem cell processing, they are readied for immediate implantation. These living stem cells are capable of down-regulating inflammation and repairing damaged tissue caused by aging, injury or disease.

Stem Cell Implantation

Once the stem cells are prepared for implantation they are implanted into the patient using a joint arthrocentesis technique.

Using this technique, a small needle is inserted into the joint and the concentrated stem cells are directly implanted into the arthritic joint.

The patient is then transported to the recovery room and later discharged. The arthrocentesis procedure is not typically painful.

Following Treatment

Patients treated for osteoarthritis are required to stay in town for a few days after the procedure. Patients are then encouraged to return home to continue conventional treatment under the care of their physician or physical therapist.

Results

Most patients treated with stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis require only a single application to obtain relief in contrast to PRP treatment that typically requires 3 injections or viscosupplementation that requires 3-5 injections.

For those with recurrent pain, a disease management program is recommended to provide regular treatment and prevent frequent continued flare-ups.

No long term studies are available for this innovative procedure.

Cost

Osteoarthritis treatment with stem cell implantation via arthrocentesis: $2,495 U.S. Dollars
